PSΔ: Salmonella In Eggs

You've probably heard of the recently millions of recalled eggs because of the salmonella. You can read more about it on NYTimes.com [click here]. If you've been eating eggs or want some, you can, just make sure that the eggs are COMPLETELY COOKED through to ensure that the bacteria has been killed.

The main points of the article:
  • Eggs that are infected cannot be distinguished from normal eggs.
  • The eggs that have been recalled are eggs that have been sold since May.
  • The brands that they're concerned about are: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, Kemps, James Farms, Glenview and Pacific Coast.
  • The cartons have date codes stamped at one end, ranging from 136 to 229 and plant numbers 1026, 1413, 1720, 1942 or 1946. The F.D.A. said the plant number is preceded by the letter P, followed by the date code. FDA's example:

  • Salmonella infections can cause diarrhea, vomitting and/or stomach pains. It can more serious illness, as in fatal, causing arterial infections, and dehydration from diarrhea and vomitting.
