FILM: Hugh Hefner-Playboy, Activist, Rebel

Some call him controversial, some call him a perverted old man, some call him genius. I call him a successful businessman who understands what men enjoy. The female figure. Hugh Hefner started the establishment of Playboy in 1953 with Marilyn Monroe posing nude from her 1949 calendar shoot. From then on there was bumps here in there but now Hefner is considered one of the top successful people in the world. There is a new documentary coming out called "Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist, Rebel." It covers the success from the very beginning of Hefners' career. Not only was he a magazine publisher but a photographer, an activist and by the way he loved controversy. He wasn't afraid to speak out and look where he's at now. I'm looking forward in seeing it.

Here are the limited release dates for the Bay:
August 20-Berkeley, CA (Shattuck Cinemas)
August 20-San Francisco, CA (Lumiere)

Did you know:
-Playboy was originally suppose to be called "Stag Party."
-In 1955, Hefner worked as a copywriter for Esquire, but quit because he was denied a 5$ dollar raise.
-Hefner donated $100,000 to the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts to create a course called "Censorship in Cinema", and $2 million to endow a chair for the study of American film.

  1. I know hugh hefner has probably done a lot of good, but at the same time I haaaate Playboy and how it has reduced the female form to an extremely specific type. Were it really a celebration of the female figure in all its glory, you would see more than busty blondes with tiny wastes. There's no deviation from these barbie doll clone models, which I think is terrible and only perpetuation this stereotype of what sexy women are.

Here's a short article poking some fun at Hugh:
